Some of my blog peeps asked me to show them some wedding pics and I was taking my sweet time! While I was away on my camping trip, sneaky Mel found some of my wedding photos (well, they are actually right in my facebook profile but I totally forgot they were there! :P ) so I thought that would be a great opportunity to share the fun;-)

I didn’t have a traditional wedding. I had actually planned on having one, but as we got deeper into the planning stages, it just started to feel not quite right for Toby and I. We had been together for over 5 years and wanted to have a really unique memory of the beginning of our marriage.
In the beginning I was pressured by a lot of people who insisted that I’d regret not walking down an aisle or wearing the big fancy dress. People definitely didn’t think the destination wedding was the thing to do but I rarely conformed in other facets of my life though so it seemed like a great idea to do something different from the norm:-)

We got married in the valley of fire 6 years ago in october (it’s weird how I can never seem to remember the exact dates). We chose it mainly because we had a limited budget but it was still unusual (originally we wanted to get married in ireland but alas, no cash monies!) The valley of fire is a desert with bright red rocks and sand in the middle of Nevada. It’s used for the filming of many movies because of how distinct it looks. We didn’t exactly “elope” because my parents totally knew about it:-) It was just us and two of our close friends (you might recognize my bff Troy in the photo)!

We were driven out to the Valley of Fire in the morning because it gets really hot so we had to start early. I’m NOT a morning person so I insisted that we stop so I could get some sort of coffee drink;-)

The desert was amazing and totally awe-inspiring…not to mention that it was completely empty except for us! The reverend dude was waiting for us with a cake and champagne and the ceremony was short and sweet;-)

It was so much fun! Because it was such an inexpensive wedding, we didn’t really take it super seriously and it was EPICWIN when it turned out to be so awesome! My mom always teased me in high school that I’d get married in my combat boots. 10 years later, I actually did!
